My sister in law gave me some lovely yarn for Christmas.
One is a variegated that reminds me of rainbow sherbet. The colors are so vibrant!
I knew I wanted to make something for a little girl out of it. So tonight I cast on a baby hat for one of my cousin's daughters.
It turned out perfectly!!!
So here is the chunky cabled baby hat
For use with any yarn that is approx 4 stitches per inch on size 11 needles
Will fit 6 months to 2 years old w/ stretch
Materials
Yarn
1 size 11 16" round needle
1 set 10.5 DPN
Stitch marker
large crochet hook (to work in ends)
Body of hat
Cast on 45 stitches
Round One: Join round and Knit
Round Two: *Knit 6, Purl 3* Repeat to end
Repeat Round Two 4 times
Round Seven: *Cable 3 front, Perl 3* Repeat to end
Round Eight: *Knit 6, Purl 3* Repeat to end
Repeat Rounds Seven and Eight until you have 4 inches of work, end on a cable round
Decrease for crown
Round Nine: *K2tog, K2, SSK, Purl 3* Repeat to end
Round Ten: *K 6, P 3* Repeat to end
Round Eleven: same as round 10
Switch to double pointed needles
Round Twelve: *K 6, P2tog, P 1* Repeat to end
Round Thirteen: *K 6, P 2* Repeat to end
Round Fourteen: *Cable 2 Front, P 2* Repeat to end
Round Fifteen: *K 4, P2tog* Repeat to end
Round Sixteen: *K 4, P 2* Repeat to end
Round Seventeen: *K 4, P2tog* Repeat to end
Round Eighteen: *K2tog, SSK, P 1* Repeat to end
Round Nineteen: *K 2, P 1* Repeat to end
Round Twenty: *Ktog, P1* Repeat to end
Cut off yarn and secure stitches
Make a pom pom and affix it to the top.
